Manchester United, Leeds United hold interest in Leicester City’s Luke Thomas?

Leicester City defender Luke Thomas has allegedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United and Leeds United.

The left-back has spent his entire professional career at the King Power Stadium, making a total of 85 appearances in all competitions.

However, Thomas has reached a stage of his career where he could potentially depart for pastures new, largely due to less than a year remaining on his contract.

Furthermore, the England Under-21 international is yet to be used by new head coach Enzo Maresca in the Championship, remaining as an unused substitute in the last three fixtures.

As it stands, Leicester are well stocked in the full-back areas ahead of the closure of the transfer window, although that could change over the coming days.

Whether the 22-year-old stays in the East Midlands remains to be seen, but it appears that he and his club will have options to force through a departure.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United are considering whether to bring in Thomas as a replacement for Luke Shaw.

United’s first-choice option in that position is expected to remain on the sidelines for a number of months, leaving Tyrell Malacia as the only experienced alternative.

While United’s have other priorities in the market, they are exploring their options with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella another name said to be on Erik ten Hag‘s shortlist.

Although Thomas may theoretically prefer a transfer to Man United, it is claimed by Football Insider that Leeds are also interested in acquiring his services.

The report suggests that the Yorkshire giants may look to negotiate a loan deal with Leicester before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Leicester and Leeds could become Championship promotion rivals, though, and that has the potential to prevent any deal from being agreed.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke is well stocked for options at left-back due to the versatility of some of his squad members, but the German is yet to select a settled starting lineup due to a wide array of injuries during the opening weeks of the season.
