Norwich City Keen To Hold Onto Two Stars Despite Leeds United Interest

Norwich City are keen to keep hold of Josh Sargent and Scottish midfielder Kenny McLean despite recent interest from Championship rivals Leeds United, according to Football League World.

Last weekend, it was reported by Football Insider that Daniel Farke was hoping to reunite with Sargent at Elland Road, having signed the United States international during his spell as the Canaries boss back in the summer of 2021.

Sargent was the twelfth-highest goalscorer in England’s second division last season with 13 goals, 11 more than he had managed in his debut campaign at Carrow Road.

Farke also coached McLean at Norwich City and the Scot was an integral part of the German’s midfield which earned promotion to the Premier League on two separate occasions.

With Leeds’ midfield looking rather empty and the depth up top far from ideal to replace the injured Patrick Bamford, it seemed plausible that Farke was looking at two players whom he knew very well.

However, Football League World are reporting that Norwich City do not want the duo to leave this summer as both players are vital for David Wagner’s tactical system. The manager sees Sargent and McLean as important members of the squad for the Canaries’ Premier League promotion push this season.

Nevertheless, the former Huddersfield Town boss did admit in his pre-match press conference on Friday that nothing can be ruled out until deadline day passes next week [quotes via the Yorkshire Evening Post]:

“As long the window is open, I can’t rule anything out,” he said, with the deadline closing at 11pm on September 1.

“I said this often, and this is still the case, I’m very happy with the squad we have together but I will not rule anything out.”

Leeds United have completed the signing of Joel Piroe was Swansea City so it’s highly unlikely that the Yorkshire club would make a move now for Josh Sargent.

Regardless, it’s clear from the FLW report that Norwich City are not looking to sell and the Canaries would be silly to do so this late in the window unless the fee was non-rejectable.
