‘Fulham’s a great club says Iwobi..
Birthday boy Alex Iwobi gives a great interview to the Times’ Ally Rudd ahead of Fulham’s massive match at Aston Villa this afternoon.
The Nigerian midfielder covers plenty of ground; discussing his family, his desire to give something back to his community, the strength of his relationship with Marco Silva, those secret five-a-side fixtures and why the Whites have been maddeningly inconsistent.
It’s well worth a read, but Rudd’s piece starts with Iwobi’s insistence that his birthday ‘is just another day’ because that’s how he lives his life. We’d like to say happy birthday to Alex and thank you for all his wholehearted performances since he first moved to Craven Cottage from Everton last summer. Have a great day – and let’s all be celebrating another fabulous three points this afternoon.
“There was interest”- Alex Iwobi reveals how he almost joined Premier League top 5 club instead of Fulham..
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted that he could have joined Nottingham Forest in 2023, but the transfer did not work out, Soccernet.ng reports.
Fulham have enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Premier League season. The Cottagers currently sit 9th, with 48 points after 33 games.
An important part of the Cottagers’ setup is Super Eagles star Iwobi, who is having his best-ever professional campaign this season. The 28-year-old midfielder has been an important part of the team, contributing nine goals and five assists in 33 Premier League appearances.
Recall that he joined Fulham from Everton in September 2023 in a deal worth €25.7 million. However, he has revealed that her was supposed to join Nottingham Forest then, but they did not make a good offer for him.
“There was interest, the main interest came from Nottingham Forest,” Aina said, per Fulham Fan News.
“The manager at the time he called me and he asked what I was thinking about joining. Ten minutes later, Ola (Aina) has called me and he’s like, ‘Alex, you coming Nottingham Forest, the manager just called me and said persuade Alex’.
“I could have been linking up with Ola, but eventually they didn’t put in a bid and only Fulham did, so that was that.”

How has the Fulham transfer worked for Alex Iwobi?
The decision to join Fulham has turned out to be a great choice for Alex Iwobi, as he is now an established member of the team. He is also working with Marco Silva, a manager who knows his strengths and believes in him.
Iwobi’s goal contributions this season are his highest since he turned pro, and much of the credit must go to Silva for that.
Perhaps Nottingham Forest could have been better for his career, but we will never know. However, now that he is doing well at Fulham, he will look to build on the positives.
