WREXHAM completed the double over 10 teams on the way to finishing runners-up in League One to secure an historic third successive promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s men went straight up to the Championship with 92 points from 46 games – a record tally for the Reds in the Football League and surpassing the 88 points collected when clinching second spot in League One the previous campaign.

There were 27 victories throughout the course of this season, 11 draws and just eight defeats.

Twenty of those wins came by Wrexham doing the double over 10 sides – promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, Crawley Town, Northampton Town, Rotherham United, Mansfield Town, Exeter City, Burton Albion, Blackpool and Lincoln City.

Just one team did the double over Wrexham.

Stevenage won 1-0 at home on October 1 and then triumphed 3-2 at The Racecourse on January 28 when the Reds’ 22-game unbeaten home record, stretching back to March 2024, came to an end.

Parkinson’s side failed to beat another five sides with Birmingham City (L/D), Bolton Wanderers (D/D), Bristol Rovers (D/D), Cambridge United (D/D) and Leyton Orient (D/L) all avoiding defeat against the Reds.

Wrexham had the second best home record in the division.

With 16 wins, five draws and two defeats at The Racecourse, the Reds took 53 points from 23 games at their north Wales stadium, with only champions Birmingham City (19 wins, four draws and no losses) leading the way on 61 points.

There was a huge improvement in the away form from February right through to the end of the season.

The Reds only won three games on their travels up to the end of January, with victories at Peterborough, Rotherham and Burton offset by four draws and five defeats on the road.

However, that changed with Wrexham picking up eight wins from the last 11 away matches at Crawley, Northampton, Mansfield, Huddersfield Town, Wycombe, Exeter, Blackpool and Lincoln.

With two draws and a solitary defeat at Reading in that period, Wrexham took 26 points from a possible 33 and that was a huge factor in clinching automatic promotion.

Wrexham finished the campaign with the third best away record in the division with 39 points from 23 matches on their travels (11 wins, six draws and six defeats).

Only Birmingham and Wycombe, with 50 and 42 points respectively, had a better outcome on the road.

Wrexham finished 11 points behind Birmingham but with promotion wrapped up with one game to spare, the Reds ended five ahead of third placed Stockport, with Charlton and Wycombe seven and eight adrift of Parkinson’s side.

Amazingly, not one Wrexham player was shown a red card this term.

Just one other club in the division – mid-table Rotherham – completed the 46 matches without a single sending off.
