Former Wolves and Crystal Palace player is a’serious contender’ for the Rangers post.

Is a former Wolves defender about to return to the country? He’s rumored to be interested in joining the Rangers…

A former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender has shown an interest in taking over as manager of Rangers.

The Scottish Premiership club are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Michael Beale on Sunday night, bringing an end to his 10-month reign after leaving QPR.

The 43-year-old was fired after the Gers were defeated 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday, leaving them seven points behind Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic. Former Aston Villa, Fulham, and Southampton player Steve Davis has been named temporary manager as the club searches for a replacement.

Rangers are a major club, and several names have previously been associated with the job, and now one former Wolves player is rumoured to be interested. According to talkSPORT, Muscat would be interested in speaking with the Glasgow club about being their new manager.

He is thought to be a’serious candidate’ and is now managing Yokohama F.Marinos in Japan after succeeding Ange Postecoglou, who is now the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to our sister website GlasgowWorld, they will take their time with their meeting, but Muscat is one of three guys they want to talk with.

After a caretaker period at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea great Frank Lampard is another person they want to speak with, as is ex-Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has endorsed Muscat to obtain the job. “From a coaching standpoint, Kevin is a disciple of Ange Postecoglou,” the 51-year-old told Sky Sports News.

“For those who remember him as a player, and I say this with the best of intentions, the way he manages his football teams is diametrically opposed to the way he played.”

“He’s obviously played for Rangers before, but he likes to play that entertaining style of football that also produces results.” He’s maybe a little more direct than Ange in terms of edge, but he’d be a tremendous asset for Rangers because of that, what I’ve seen him accomplish, and the fact he’s Ange’s student.”

Muscat won the J.League in 2022 and was also successful in Australia with Melbourne Victory, winning the A-League in 2018. He has been in management for ten years, and his past Rangers connections may make him a good fit for the job.

Muscat, who was born in Crawley, spent the majority of his career at Molineux after joining from Crystal Palace in 1997. He made 201 appearances in four and a half seasons in the Midlands, where they played in the First Division, which is now known as the Championship.

He left in the summer of 2002 for Rangers, where he made 29 appearances before leaving after only one season to join Millwall, where he was an FA Cup runner-up.

Muscat returned to Australia, where he began his playing career, and spent six seasons as a player with Melbourne Victory, first as a caretaker manager and then as a regular manager.
