Chelsea and Tottenham still in the race to sign Barcelona star as Romano drops interesting hint

Chelsea and Tottenham are still in the race to sign Barcelona winger Ansu Fati this summer as Fabrizio Romano has clarified the current state of play.

Mauricio Pochettino and Ange Postecoglou have both done well to navigate difficult transfer windows for their clubs this summer.

Postecoglou has had to cope with the loss of Harry Kane, but plenty of Tottenham’s new summer additions have already managed to hit the ground running.

Pochettino on the other hand has had a harder job than most managers this summer. The Argentine boss has had to oversee a full squad rebuild as he looks to get Chelsea back on track.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham have gone after young talents this summer and they could each make a late move for Barcelona winger Fati.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League all summer as the likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal have also been linked with the youngster.

Romano has dropped an interesting hint regarding the Barcelona star as he has suggested the winger could still be on the move this summer.

“Ansu Fati situation, one to watch until the end of the window as mentioned multiple times,” Romano explained on Twitter.

“Understand Tottenham made contact to be informed on Ansu Fati situation while talks for Brennan Johnson continue. Chelsea have also been presented Ansu opportunity earlier this week.”

Fati could thrive in the Premier League

Xavi has left the door open for Fati to leave this summer. The 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order of late and could perhaps do with a fresh challenge.

Fati has not started in any of Barcelona’s opening three La Liga matches, although he has been used as a late substitute on all three occasions.

When asked about Fati’s future earlier this month, Xavi gave an open-ended answer to Sport: “Ansu? We’ll see, until August 31st we can’t say anything.

“It all depends on Financial Fair Play for us. And we have to see with Ferran Torres and Raphinha, there is a lot of competition up front.”

As the Barcelona youngster has struggled to nail down a consistent starting spot under Xaxi, perhaps a move to the Premier League could rejuvenate his career.

Fati is still incredibly young and has a huge future in the game if his talent is nurtured. He’s already racked up over 100 appearances for Barcelona and has been capped nine times by Spain.

Chelsea’s new project is all about signing the brightest upcoming stars from around Europe and Fati would fit into that mould without a problem.

Fati probably has more to his game at this stage than someone like Mykhailo Mudryk and he could provide some healthy competition on the left-hand side.
