Eric Dier is a target for AS Roma.

AS Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur utility man Eric Dier, 29.
According to Calciomercato, AS Roma is looking to strengthen their defense during the winter transfer window, and they have their sights set on Eric Dier. Tottenham’s 29-year-old defender is surplus to requirements and is slated to leave in January.

Dier has been at Spurs since the summer of 2014, having rising through the ranks at Sporting CP. So far, he has appeared in 360 matches and contributed to 25 goals.

He began his career in the center of the field, but in recent seasons, he has been employed as a center-back. Last season, he appeared in 42 games and logged over 3,600 minutes on the field.

Until last season, the 29-year-old was a crucial member of their first team. He was also a member of their leadership team. But a lot has changed since Ange Postecoglou arrived.

Under the Australian manager, the England international has fallen down the pecking order. Postecoglou’s plans do not include him. Dier has yet to play for the club, and with his contract expiring in less than a year, they will most likely want to move him in the winter.

Spurs sought to offload him in the summer but were unable to reach an agreement with any of the clubs interested in his services. The London club will attempt to move him again in the winter, with AS Roma a likely destination for the 29-year-old.

Mourinho’s club lacks depth in defense and hopes to sign a fifth defender in the winter transfer window. Chris Smalling has been a cornerstone of Roma’s defense for quite some time. However, he has recently been plagued by injuries, and he is already 33 years old.

Furthermore, Roger Ibaez left the club in the summer, and Evan Ndicka has not enjoyed the start he would have liked. As a result, the Portuguese manager believes they require the signing of another central defender.

Mourinho worked with Dier while he was in charge of Tottenham, and he believes the 29-year-old can strengthen the club’s defense in the short term.
