Tottenham now interested in ‘elite’ £50m striker, he’s absolutely rapid
Tottenham Hotspur have once again been credited with interest in Lille’s 23-year-old Canadian striker Jonathan David.
That’s according to 90min who revealed a list of candidates that Spurs would consider should Harry Kane leave in the coming weeks.
Alongside one Aleksander Mitrovic, David continues to be subject of Tottenham interest.
The striker had a pretty outstanding season in Ligue 1 in the past year and managed 24 goals across his 37 games.
And given how often David is linked with a move to England, it may be a surprise if a move didn’t again materialise this summer.
David is an ‘elite’ option for Tottenham and the Lille striker really could prove to be a satisfying replacement for Kane should he leave.
Of course we are still no closer to knowing if Kane will still be in North London next season in what is proving to be a long summer saga.
Nonetheless, if Spurs were to opt for Jonathan David, who can be devastating with his speed running in behind a defence, they shouldn’t be disappointed.
Tottenham could consider a move for Lille’s David if Kane leaves
Those who have followed David’s career thus far will know this isn’t the first time he’s been linked to North London.
Arsenal have long been credited with interest in the striker themselves.
And with Folarin Balogun seemingly on the move, and Gabriel Jesus injured, it’s not impossible to think they may explore the option again.
Whether that could prove as motivation for Spurs remains to be seen.
But if Kane does leave Tottenham then Lille’s £50m David would look a very sensible replacement.
It’s interesting to note that two of the replacements Spurs are linked with, Mitrovic and David, are very different stylistically.
If the reports are true then this may be Spurs looking at different tactical approaches building around each striker.
And in truth it’s almost impossible to replace all of Harry Kane’s qualities in just one man.
