Grayson has written in the Football League Paper (20.04.25, page 39): “Everyone knows I’m a Leeds supporter, so I’m sure there’ll be accusations of bias. But for me, the Championship Player of the Season is Dan James. The winger is one of three on the final shortlist, along with Gustavo Hamer of Sheffield United and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.”
He added: “What’s impressed me is the way he has learned the game over the years. When you’re a speed merchant like Dan, it’s easy to rely solely on pace. And at certain levels – when he was coming through at Swansea – that was enough. But unless you’re Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, you will eventually come up against players who are quicker, cleverer and stronger than you. That’s when you need to mix things up and add different dimensions to your game.”

Leeds United’s Dan James hailed by Simon Grayson
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has managed to get the best out of James this season. He has made 37 appearances in all competitions for LUFC and has chipped in with 12 goals and nine assists.
His deal at Elland Road expires in the summer of 2026. The Whites have a decision to make regarding his long-term future as he is due to become a free agent next year as things stand.

The Wales international has been on the books of the Yorkshire outfit since joining them in 2021. He was loaned out to Fulham a couple of seasons ago.
James has been a consistent performer over recent times. The Hull-born man started out at Hull City before linking up with Swansea City as a youngster. He then broke into the Swans’ first-team before Manchester United lured him to Old Trafford.
What now for Dan James and Leeds United?
Leeds United’s fate is in their own hands as they look to get over the line. LUFC are back in action on Monday afternoon at home to Stoke City before clashes against Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle.

A win would be a massive for the Whites and would see them take a step closer to promotion. They should be in confident after their recent victory at Oxford United.
Farke’s men were beaten in the play-off final last year at Wembley by Southampton. They have since bounced back from that loss well, despite losing key players like Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray and Crysensio Summerville last summer.
