Yesterday, a Northampton company made the “sad decision” to close one of its stores in the Daventry town center.
Online leasing is an option for this property.
The High Street location of Its a Gift in Daventry officially closed on January 29, 2024.
Over her 27-year tenure at the location, Carol Palin, 57, oversaw the shop for more than six of those years. “I really loved working here,” the woman remarked. I was devastated when we found out. The business will not be renewing the lease when it expires on February 2.
It is our way of life. It’s happening everywhere, so I’m not blaming the company or anything. I guess I’m just afraid of what lies ahead at this point. I’ve spent a lot of time here. I don’t believe it has fully struck me yet.”
In 1975, John and Jean Helena Bacon established It’s a Gift. The store opened at number 57 on High Street in 1984 and moved to number 33 in 2004. It has been on the street since then.
It’s merely the end of a phase. Very depressing. It’s a pleasure to work for them,” Carol remarked.
Currently, Paul Jonathan Bacon,68, and Simon Peter Bacon,65, are in charge of the Northampton-based business.
Simon stated: “The store is no longer viable due to the expiration of our current lease, significant increases in overhead, the growth of online shopping, and the general decline of the ‘High Street.'” Thus, we had to make the painful decision to close the branch.
The property is listed for £26,000 a year on Zoopla.
Carol stated: “We must get to know our clients.” I will miss every one of my wonderful clients. Last week, a large number of people visited us. Customers were crying because we were about to close. We were crying a lot today. It is included in Daventry.
Simon says the three other stores in Northampton and Irthlingborough are still open.
“We’d like to thank all of our customers for their support and loyalty over the years,” he stated.
“We would like to wish all of our staff the very best for the future and to give them a special mention and huge thank you. Several of them have been with us for over 20 years.”
