5 Rangers Leaving Texas in the New Year
The Texas Rangers utilized an offseason spending spree to win the first World Series in franchise history in 2023, transforming the MLB landscape as we know it and cementing the Rangers’ status as a potential powerhouse.
As is usually the case when you win a championship, the Rangers will undergo a lot of changes this offseason. Certain mainstays with the organization are departing and new faces will take over to hopefully lead the next iteration of a Rangers champion.
With the dust settling from a wild couple of months of moves, let’s take a look at five Rangers who are leaving Texas in the new year.
Pérez signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, officially ending his nine-year tenure with the Rangers. He lost his spot in the starting rotation mid-season and finished the year in the bullpen, so a move like this felt inevitable.
Nonetheless, it’ll be strange to watch Pérez throw in a different uniform in 2024. Pérez spent his first season in Texas before briefly joining the Twins and Red Sox and returning. He was an All-Star in 2022, amassing a 2.89 ERA over 196.1 innings in his career-best year.
He departs Texas with 208 career wins to 180 losses as a Ranger with a 4.30 ERA and 724 strikeouts over 1,099.1 innings.
Given his lengthy tenure with the Rangers, it’s a blessing that Pérez was able to secure a World Series with the team he began his career with.
Both sides are moving on now, but it was a happy ending no matter how you look at it.
