Pearl is impressed by the 5-star, saying, “He wants me to come to Auburn.”
Alabama’s HANCEVILLE—Caleb Holt, a five-star small forward, is getting closer to his goal of winning two straight titles after the Bucks defeated Cullman 62-37 on Tuesday morning to advance to the Final 4 in Birmingham. The Bucks won the 6A state title last season as a freshman at Buckhorn. Bruce Pearl of Auburn was present when Holt finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds on 10–14 shooting. In the triumph, he also contributed two blocks, four steals, and two assists.
After Buckhorn got off to a slow start and trailed 8-3 after the first quarter, the majority of that damage occurred in just the middle two quarters. Guard Frederick Derrick ignited the Bucks with ten straight points in the second quarter. Holt then went on a scoring spree, scoring nine points in the quarter as Buckhorn defeated Cullman 24-2 in eight minutes to seize the lead. After the Bucks started the first quarter 1-11, Holt’s driving play to the basket and finish at the rim set off an offensive surge that saw them make 24 of their final 33 shots.
