MLB 2023–24 free agent tracker: Cody Bellinger is reportedly joining the Cubs again for three years at a cost of $80 million.

Early on Sunday morning, Cody Bellinger’s protracted free agency finally came to an end when he reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year, $80 million contract with the Chicago Cubs. He was ranked No. 5 among free agents by Yahoo Sports.

Bellinger will have opt-outs following the first and second years of his contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. If he stays with the Cubs through the end of his contract, he will reportedly earn $30 million in 2024, $30 million in 2025, and $20 million in 2026.

Tim Anderson signs a one-year contract with the Marlins.
On February 22, the Miami Marlins signed shortstop Tim Anderson to a one-year contract as a late free agent, as sources told Yahoo Sports. $5 million is the total deal value, including a $500,000 trade escalator.
After playing for the Chicago White Sox for his first eight Major League seasons, Anderson is hoping for a strong season in 2024 to reestablish his value. After what was arguably his worst season as an All-Star, the two-time player slashed.Before the White Sox declined his option in November, he hit 245/.286/.296 with one home run and an MLB-worst.582 OPS.
When full-squad workouts started in February, Anderson was still one of the best free agents without a team. On Yahoo Sports’ ranking of the top 25 free agents for the winter, he was ranked No. 13.

Whit Merrifield is a one-year signing with the Phillies.
Whit Merrifield, an infielder and utility player, signed a one-year contract on February 16 with a club option for 2025. According to reports, the deal will be for $8 million in 2024.

After playing with the Royals from 2016 to 2022, Merrifield has been a member of the Blue Jays for the last two seasons.

Soler is entering his 11th year in the majors; he will turn 32 at the end of February. In 2023, while batting.250/.341/.512, he hit 36 home runs with the Miami Marlins, which was his second-highest total ever.

It was only the fourth time in his career that he participated in more than 100 games. He had his best season since 2019—a season in which he started all 162 games and hit an AL-high 48 home runs for the Kansas City Royals. In addition, he has played for the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs.

On Yahoo Sports’ list of the best free agents available this winter, he came in at number 14.
