See MEGADETH play “Liar” for the first time since 2006
With Megadeth currently out on their “Destroy All Enemies” tour, it should be no surprise that the metal vets are in a playfully confrontational mood this summer. To prove that point, Dave Mustaine and Co. dusted off thrashy So Far So Good…So What! diss track “Liar” for the first time in close to 20 years over the weekend.
Though the song had been taken out of rotation in 2006, Megadeth launched back into the razor-edged cut last Friday (August 9th) at Inglewood, California’s YouTube Theater. Considering it’s been a while since the song has been performed onstage, Mustaine sneered up a quick “Let’s see if you recognize this one,” before ripping into the intro riff.
“Liar” is famously believed to be about former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland, who had been fired from the band over substance issues and allegedly selling band gear to pay for drugs. The track references a thief and all-around troublemaker known to “hock guitars,” and finds Mustaine going nuclear on his lyrical target and their family.
As you can see in the fan-shot footage up above and down below, Mustaine kept things unfiltered and pissed at the YouTube Theater, while Megadeth likewise ran through the song the following night (August 10th) at Concord, California’s Toyota Pavilion.
Megadeth’s Destroy All Enemies tour with Mudvayne and All That Remains continues tonight (August 12th) at Auburn, Washington’s White River Amphitheatre. You can find the rest of the route here.
