Here’s why Peter Vermes is still affected by Sporting KC’s season-ending defeat.
For his final-year news conference, Peter Vermes met with local media about sixty hours after Sporting KC’s season concluded in Houston. Whether his team performed up to his expectations going into the season was the first question. Vermes discussed his competitive nature and how disappointing it would be to not win a championship as he responded. He quickly clarified that he was still proud of the team’s growth in spite of that

In particular, Vermes was pleased with how some players advanced significantly and how Sporting KC’s locker room culture developed over the course of the season. Despite his pride, Vermes is still very angry about the way KC’s season ended on Sunday.
“You don’t always achieve your goals,” Vermes remarked. “But it’s a really, really hard thing to swallow when you don’t have a fair chance at it and that’s the reason you fall short of your goal.” Ultimately, neither Vermes nor the players are willing to acknowledge that their loss to Houston in the MLS Playoffs Western Conference Semifinals was ultimately caused by a contentious call.

Sam Mewis will not be making a comeback in 2024, according to the Kansas City Current, as she battles a chronic knee injury.
Mewis’s contract expired, so she is currently a free agent. The midfielder for the US women’s national team only appeared in two games for the Current, both of which were held in March 2022 as part of the Challenge Cup.
Additionally, Mewis’s two appearances in those matches marked the end of his playing career. In January 2023, the 31-year-old made the decision to have a major operation, from which she is currently recovering.
Mewis’s departure was announced by The Current on Wednesday through a social media post that read, “We wish you all the best and thank you for being a part of this club.”
Mewis, a key member of the USWNT team that won the 2019 World Cup and has amassed 83 caps, acknowledged earlier this month that her playing future was very uncertain.
Mewis stated on her podcast “Snacks” that her objective is to become as healthy as possible. She is actively working toward this goal.
“I continue to go to physical therapy and the gym every day in the hopes of getting my knee as good as it can get. Even though I’m aware that’s not all the information most people would want to know, I feel as though I must concentrate on that.

According to the agreement, the Kansas City Current training facility in Riverside, Missouri, which was completed last year and became the country’s first purpose-built training complex for a women’s professional sports team, will now be known as the University of Kansas Health System Training Centre.
Two natural grass fields and several artificial turf fields totaling more than 17,000 square feet are part of the $18 million training complex. Carefully planned, the arrangement emphasizes both the nutritional (high performance chef, locally sourced menus) and training (elite weight, cardio, and recovery assets) aspects of player health.
