Terron Armstead’s quad injury is being evaluated week-to-week.
Terron Armstead left the game with a quad injury on Friday, forcing Miami Dolphins players Kion Smith and Kendall Lamm to fill in at left tackle. Due to the injury, Miami’s starting tackle is regarded as week-to-week, according to coach Mike McDaniel’s announcement on Saturday.
Smith took Armstead’s place after he played 49 snaps in the New York Jets’ 34-13 Black Friday rout. After playing 13 snaps, the 2021 college free agent slid to right tackle when Austin Jackson, the game’s starter, was ejected early in the fourth quarter.
Lamm, who began six games this season at left tackle, took over for Jackson for the final eight snaps at the position. Overcoming injuries as well as ejections, Miami’s offensive line ignited a rushing attack that averaged 4.5 yards per carry while limiting the Jets to just two sacks.
Coach Mike McDaniel stated on Friday, “They’ll be some capable guys that are healthy, because we’re very well versed at adjusting.” “We’ll find out who those are and exactly what that looks like.”

Head coach Mike McDaniel announced on Saturday that outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, which is a major setback for the Miami Dolphins. Phillips was carted off the field and into the locker room after suffering an injury without contact in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game against the New York Jets.
In response, McDaniel addressed the matter, recognizing the effect of Phillips’ absence and outlining the Dolphins’ future.
According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, McDaniel stated, “You don’t necessarily replace Jaelan Phillips.” However, there are people who are more than willing to step up and sort of get his production in different ways. Fortunately, there is some depth to us.
With four sacks this season, linebacker Andrew van Ginkel has shown he is capable of playing a bigger role for the Dolphins defensive scheme. Furthermore, it is anticipated that defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who signed a $65 million contract in the 2022 offseason and recorded 18 sacks in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, will be instrumental in covering for Phillips’ injury.
McDaniel stressed the team’s defensive strategy for making up for such a significant loss.
“You just give different people opportunities, and you kind of spread that out to do your best to compensate for that production loss, but you don’t necessarily replace him.”
The Dolphins, who defeated the Jets 34–13 to start their winning streak, will now have to maintain their defensive excellence without Phillips. Fans are excited to see how the lineup changes work out for the rest of what has been one of Miami’s best seasons in recent memory as the team modifies its approach.
