49ers injury update: Arik Armstead and two more are out of practice on Wednesday.
This week, in advance of the 49ers’ game against the Eagles, Arik Armstead, Ray-Ray McCloud, and Jordan Mason were forced to be listed as injured.
The San Francisco 49ers avoided serious injury for the most part during their Thursday Night Football victory over the Seattle Seahawks, with the exception of special teams star George Odum’s torn biceps.
That’s a godsend at this time of year, particularly since the Niners get a mini-bye week in Weeks 12 and 13.
It’s also fortunate in that it gives head coach Kyle Shanahan’s team an opportunity to recuperate and get ready for their much-awaited Week 13 matchup against the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles, who just so happened to beat San Francisco in the NFC Championship game last January.
With an 8-3 record, the 49ers would be thrilled with a road win in this game to exact some revenge and move closer to the top spot in the conference standings.
Three players who made this week’s injury report should hopefully end up being available anyhow.
After a short week last week and an extra break, the Niners are returning to their regular routines.
Following practice, Shanahan informed the media that running back Jordan Mason was suffering from a hamstring strain, wide receiver and return specialist Ray-Ray Armstrong was dealing with a rib injury, and defensive tackle Arik Armstead was dealing with a foot injury.
Shanahan stated that he was “not sure how similar it is” to Armstead’s injury from the previous season, which prevented him from playing for almost half of 2022.
Nonetheless, given that the injured players are only listed as day-to-day and won’t be out for an extended period of time, it appears as though all three have a good chance of being healthy enough to play in San Francisco’s next road game against Philadelphia.
In order to determine who has the best chance of being available for Sunday’s game, which begins on December 3 at 4:25 p.m. ET, Friday’s injury report and game designation will be essential.

Until Brock Purdy defeats the Philadelphia Eagles, is he still viewed as unproven? Insider Matt Maiocco of the 49ers discusses his thoughts on the subject.
SANTA CLARA: The 49ers seem healthy going into Week 13, despite the two previous weeks’ long-term injuries to members of their secondary.
The 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced that wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (ribs), running back Jordan Mason (hamstring), and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot) were not expected to practice on Wednesday.
There’s a good chance that all three will be available for the 49ers’ Week 13 matchup when they return to practice later this week.
The top two teams in the NFC will square off on Sunday when the 49ers (8-3) travel to play the Philadelphia Eagles (10-1).
As part of his weekly rest day regimen, left tackle Trent Williams is anticipated to skip practice on Wednesday in order to prepare for practice on Thursday and Friday. When practice on Friday is over, San Francisco will head to the East Coast.
Due to injuries, the 49ers have lost starting safety Talanoa Hufanga and key special teams player George Odum in their last two games. With Hufanga and Odum on injured reserve, the team’s depth behind Tashaun Gipson and Ji’Ayir Brown, the starters, is diminished.
Odum had surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn biceps, and Hufanga is out for the season due to a torn ACL in his right knee. If the 49ers have a successful postseason run, there’s a chance Odum will play again.
Isaiah Oliver, a seasoned cornerback, told NBC Sports Bay Area on Wednesday that he can offer depth at safety. Erik Harris, a seasoned safety, was also added to the 49ers practice squad this week. Tayler Hawkins, a rookie pro, is also included in the practice squad.
Right tackle Lane Johnson and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are the two Eagles players with the most serious injury concerns.
Johnson’s groin injury kept him out of the Eagles’ Sunday game against the Buffalo Bills. Due to a groin injury, Cox was ruled out of Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter.
