Phil Hay discusses Georginio Rutter’s injury against Watford for Leeds United.

Phil Hay has provided an injury report for Leeds United after Georginio Rutter was “hurt” following a foul against Watford on Saturday, September 23.

Despite being tied at halftime, the Whites’ domination paid dividends in the second half, with goals from Joel Piroe, Sam Byram, and Jaidon Anthony ensuring all three points remained at Elland Road.

Rutter, 21, had a difficult first period for Daniel Farke’s side, having two shots and should have scored with one, but he turned it on after the knock, embarrassing the away team with ease at times.

“Party piece from Rutter to spin out of pressure, great skill, but then fouled and hurt in the challenge,” Hay tweeted (23 September). I’m getting treatment. 29th min.”

It’s all good.

Despite the hard contact, Rutter was able to play the rest of the first half, even getting into the referee’s book when striking partner Joel Piroe gave away a foul while attempting to block a fast free-kick.

With Wilfried Gnonto out injured and Patrick Bamford not yet fit to play in Farke’s side, the Whites would have rapidly looked short of genuine attacking alternatives if Rutter had been unable to continue.

Joe Gelhadrt remains on the bench but has yet to shown his ability to lead the Leeds attack, so Farke cannot afford to lose any more forward options to injury, at least until Bamford is fit and ready to be included in a matchday squad.

In terms of Rutter’s play, the Frenchman was once again outstanding and deserved to score his third league goal of the season. Farke and those above him at Elland Road made a very wise decision to keep him despite interest this summer.

In unrelated Leeds United news, Farke admitted to breaking a precedent by substituting Joel Piroe against Hull City.
