Watch: Senior Bowl: Louisville wide receiver Jarvis Brownlee intercepts Sam Hartman

LOUISVILLE, KY: I apologize if you’ve heard this before, but Sam Hartman was intercepted by a Louisville defensive back once more.

In the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl from Mobile, Alabama, it was former Cardinals cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. This is an all-star exhibition where some of the best upperclassmen in college football can showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts.

The former Wake Forest and Notre Dame quarterback mishandled a pass to Brownlee inside the 10-yard line in the closing minute of the first half, when the score was tied at seven and the National Team was in the red zone. Then, to keep the score tied at halftime, the former Louisville star took the interception 34 yards up the right sideline.

While there is no denying that Hartman is one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football history, Louisville’s defense has had some success stopping him. Of his 49 career interceptions and his 22 career fumbles, eight have come from the Cardinals. In his final two games against Louisville, a 48-21 UofL victory over No. 10 Wake Forest in 2022 and a 33-20 victory over No. 10 Notre Dame this past season, he committed 11 turnovers.

Brownlee’s stellar performance in the Senior Bowl thus far wraps up a fantastic week that has surely raised his draft prospects. The Miami Gardens, Florida native was regularly among the top players during the week of practice that preceded the real game. Pro Football Focus recognized him as a standout in two of the three practice sessions.

Trevor Sikkema of PFF wrote, “He is a very competitive player.” “Despite being only 5 feet 10 inches tall, he had the longest arms of any cornerback on the American squad, measuring 31.75 inches. He made use of those long arms at the catch point and in press coverage during the course of the week. He ought to be moving up the big board and mock draft ranks.”

A foot injury kept Brownlee somewhat limited in the last few games of the 2023 season, but he was still one of the best cornerbacks in the ACC. This season, he appeared in 11 games with 9 starts, recording 30 tackles, 1 for loss, 6 pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

Brownlee spent three years at Florida State before moving to Louisville before the 2022 season. Despite occasional difficulties with gaps in coverage, Brownlee’s physical attributes allowed him to still have an impact. In his first season as a Cardinal, he started all 13 games and recorded 66 tackles, 2.5 for loss, two interceptions, and 12 pass breakups, good for second in the ACC.

Brownlee played in 21 games for the Seminoles, recording 78 tackles, 4.0 for loss, a sack, three interceptions, four pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
