Terron Armstead was a mainstay on the Miami Dolphins’ injury report in 2023 with a multitude of injuries.
injury to the knee? Check.
Ankle? Yes.
Returning? Indeed.
Four? that as well.
During the previous regular season, he was listed as injured for 13 of the 17 weeks and missed seven games for the Dolphins. While his play hasn’t suffered, the five-time Pro Bowler’s body has, and as a result, he is considering retirement.
The 32-year-old stated that he hasn’t decided yet during Friday’s Pro Bowl Games practice. He has been concentrating on improving both physically and mentally since the Dolphins’ season ended in an AFC wild-card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, prior to making the expected decision.
Armstead told NFL.com that he was simply taking a break from the game. “It was a physically demanding and lengthy season for me. I haven’t even begun the process of getting away after the Chiefs playoff loss. All I’ve done is relax, heal, and spend time with my family.”
With Miami, Armstead has a five-year, $75 million contract with three seasons remaining.
Before he signed with the Dolphins in the 2022 offseason after spending nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints, he was arguably the most sought-after free agent. In response, he had consecutive Pro Bowl seasons, but he has struggled with injuries all of his playing career. In his 11 career seasons, he has only played in 14 or more games three times, and he has never completed a full season. He’s participated in 23 of the 34 regular-season games that the Fins have scheduled since his arrival.
This year may have been the most excruciating to endure.
“This season definitely was a challenge physically, probably this one more than the others this one stuck out,” he stated. “I’m recovering, though, and feeling good. I have not done much since the playoffs; all I have been doing is resting and recuperating.”
Ultimately, Armstead’s long list of injuries may prove to be too great an obstacle to overcome.
Even so, it’s obvious that he would be devastated to give up the game and feels that Miami is the perfect place for him.
About the psychological toll of missing practices and games, Armstead remarked, “It’s just tough being away from the guys.” “Leaving that cohesiveness, that chemistry, that energy behind. We play the game for that reason. You know, you get into a huddle with your guys, and you laugh, chat, and make light of the circumstances. Then, whether it’s at home or away, you can feel the energy of the crowd on game day. It’s simply an atmosphere that is impossible to duplicate. It’s a blank when you’re not playing.
But he’s not gonna have to deal with it this weekend. As a Pro Bowler, he’s having fun in Orlando, Florida. He’s joined by five other Dolphins, demonstrating just how talented Miami’s roster is. According to Armstead, the Dolphins are improving after securing consecutive postseason trips for the first time since 2001.
“Our expectations are at an all-time high and that’s exactly the environment and situation you want to be in,” he stated. “No, no, I don’t want to be in a situation where six wins.
