In the “huge” Detroit Red Wings victory over the Flyers, Moritz Seider excels.
On Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Flyers in a “huge” victory highlighted by defenseman Moritz Seider.
The Detroit Red Wings hosted the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night, and they needed to bounce back. The team needed a strong showing after a tough 5-4 loss to the Dallas Stars, where their attempt at a comeback was unsuccessful. A crucial goal from defenseman Moritz Seider in the second period gave the team momentum and ultimately resulted in a convincing 3-0 victory. Later, Seider called the victory “huge.”
With a 3-0 victory, the Detroit Red Wings bounced back.
Even though the Red Wings got off to a slow start in the first twenty minutes, they only managed to get four shots on Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson. But early in the second period, Captain Dylan Larkin broke the ice by quickly extending his own point streak to 10 games after grabbing a rebound from Lucas Raymond’s shot. With a point-blank attempt that swerved past Ersson, Seider increased the lead to 2-0. The scoring continued when Flyers power play opportunity saw forward Andrew Copp score his 100th goal of the season while playing shorthanded. Alex Lyon, the goalie, played well in goal, recording 30 saves for his second shutout of the season.
Seider would say, “It was huge for us, especially the second period.” “We were aware of our mistakes in the Dallas game. We really hit the mark in the second, I believe. The victory tonight was really important. It maintains us in the race for the playoffs and, in my opinion, boosts our confidence somewhat.
Seider’s intended pass to Alex DeBrincat in front of the net took an unexpected turn, and it was fortunate for him. The puck hit Morgan Frost’s stick, completely changing its course and, coincidentally, making its way into the net.
Seider remarked, “I just saw the puck floating in.” It was quite fortunate. At the end of the day, a goal is a goal, and
Raymond, in the meantime, would talk about the confidence his team was looking to play with following Tuesday’s loss to Dallas.
“We want to play as a team now, the way we played in the second period against Dallas,” Raymond stated. “I believe that we had to show up, play with pace, and play with confidence throughout the entire game.”
Bottom Line: Maintaining a tight standings
In order to stay ahead of their rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Red Wings picked up two vital points in the standings. Along with their victory on Thursday, the Lightning now lead Detroit by two points. But the Red Wings have a game in hand, which gives them a chance to get closer in the standings race.
On Saturday, the Red Wings will play again at Little Caesars Arena, adding to the venue’s doubleheader. The Detroit Pistons will play the Washington Wizards at noon, and the Red Wings will play the Vegas Golden Knights, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, at 8:00 PM.
