The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, two of the most illustrious programs in the history of the game, will join the ranks of the SEC football team, which is widely regarded as the greatest conference in the world for football. The Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, and Alabama Crimson Tide—winners of four of the previous five College Football Playoff championships—will all still be present in the fiercely competitive SEC. Many of the conference’s best schools continue to retool for what will surely be a demanding 2024 campaign. On Monday, though, a particular school lost three players to the transfer portal.
Three players were seen by the Missouri Tigers to access the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. After an 11-2 season, Missouri hopes to contend for the SEC championship the following year.
Three players were lost to the transfer portal on Monday, meaning that the Missouri Tigers will not be the newest team in the SEC football class come fall. Running back Michael Cox, defensive lineman Ky Montgomery, and tight end Ryan Hoerstkamp are reportedly scheduled to go through the transfer portal.
Since 2021, Hoerstkamp has performed at Missouri. In his first season with the Tigers, the tight end did not record any stats; however, in his sophomore year, he caught two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. He only played in one game last season and did not record a catch, so he did not see an increase in playing time. Montgomery, a former 347Sports three-star prospect, redshirted in 2021 as a freshman. Out of the three players who plan to transfer, Cox has the most playing time. As a redshirt freshman in 2021, the running back gained 150 yards and two touchdowns on 18 rushes. The next season, he played in ten games and gained 46 yards on nine rushes. Last year, he didn’t participate in any games. Cox scores a robust 7.3 yards per rush attempt on average.
Little to nothing was lost for the Missouri Tigers as a result of Monday’s transfer portal news. They are still among the top squads to contend for the SEC football championship in the autumn. Brady Cook, the breakout quarterback for Missouri, will continue to lead the charge in his final season. In 2023, the veteran starter passed for 3,317 yards and 21 touchdowns with six picks. In 2024, Luther Burden Jr., his favorite weapon, will make a comeback to Columbia. Last year, Burden recorded 1,212 yards, nine touchdowns, and 86 receptions. In addition, he ran 31 yards seven times.
