Football at Virginia Tech: QB Collin Schlee from UCLA joins the Hokies
On Tuesday, Virginia Tech Hokies added their first spring transfer when quarterback Collin Schlee of UCLA declared his intention to complete his college career in Blacksburg.
Born and raised in Ijamsville, Maryland, Schlee spent his first four seasons as a student at Kent State. He started as the starting quarterback in 2022 and completed 2,109 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions on 59% of his passes.
Prior to the previous season, the 225-pound, 6-foot-3 Schlee transferred to UCLA. Schlee completed 25 of 47 passing attempts for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions during his one season with the Bruins. With 1,126 rushing yards (6.5 YPC) and 11 touchdowns in 31 games, Schlee is another potent runner.

This past weekend, UCLA transfer Collin Schlee visited Virginia Tech (following a visit with Kentucky), and 48 hours after arriving on campus, he committed to the Hokies for the 2024 campaign, closing a significant roster gap that existed going into the summer.
Schlee, a senior redshirt, has one more year of eligibility left. He got to meet Pry and Bowen, as well as a few players, during his trip to Blacksburg, where he also learned about the scheme and how he would fit into the plans for the upcoming fall season.
Prior to joining UCLA, Schlee attended Kent State. In his final season of 2022, he neared completion of 2,109 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air. 500 yards of ground gain and four touchdowns via running. The Maryland native was a spot-time quarterback for the Bruins in 2023, throwing for 217 yards and two touchdowns at UCLA. He rushed for 127 yards and completed 78 passes for 78 yards in their Los Angeles Bowl victory over Boise State.
The next goal for Pry and his staff is to add another offensive lineman, so Virginia Tech’s work in the transfer portal is not finished.
