Cowboys overtime Reportedly, Tyron Smith wants a new contract to join the Cowboys in free agency the following season.
Tyron Smith is not ready for his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys to come to an end.
The Cowboys’ player with the longest contract, Smith, is expected to become a free agent this spring. According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, the offensive lineman is looking for a new contract to stay with the Cowboys in 2024 and isn’t thinking about retiring just yet.
Smith is without a doubt among the league’s best offensive tackles. Since the Cowboys selected him out of USC with the No. 9 overall pick in 2011, he has been a mainstay on the team.
The problem, though, is that Smith has had near-constant injuries in recent years. Over the previous three seasons, Smith has missed 23 games due to a variety of injuries. Due to knee, back, and neck problems, he missed four games in the previous season. Following a hamstring tear during training camp in 2022, he missed all but four of that season. Smith hasn’t actually participated in a full Cowboys season since 2015.
It also appears that the Cowboys have a backup plan in case Smith needs to be replaced. Tyler Smith was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and during the previous two seasons, he has started all but three games on the offensive line. Tyler would ideally switch to left tackle when Smith’s contract expired.
In 2016, Smith, 33, agreed to an eight-year contract worth almost $100 million with the Cowboys. It’s unclear if the Cowboys and his team have even begun talks about a potential new contract, let alone how far along those talks are. However, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was pleased with where he and Smith were at the end of the season earlier this year.
Kyle Long has expressed regret to Stephen A. Smith for the embarrassing drunken encounter that first aired on NBC Sports Chicago.
Former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long opened up about an awkward encounter he had at a Super Bowl party years ago with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
The three-time Pro Bowler confronted Smith over some derogatory remarks he had made about Jay Cutler, his teammate at the time, in public. On the Saturday edition of his brother’s podcast, “Green Light with Chris Long,” Long went into detail about the inebriated encounter.
“One of my biggest regrets in life involves Stephen A. Smith, and it’s something that I think about often,” Kyle Long stated. It’s one of those situations where you’re lying in bed and something embarrassing you did comes to mind. And you’re thinking, “F—, is this a nightmare?”
When Long interrupted Smith mid-conversation to defend his quarterback, he was approximately “12 beers deep,” saying something like, “Jay Cutler says hello.”
Smith gave me that “you are an f—— idiot” look. Long uttered
After that, Long expressed regret to Smith for the embarrassing exchange.
The original post about the Bears needing to move quickly after trading for Justin Fields was made by Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins on NBC Sports Chicago.
Ryan Poles, general manager, pledged to dig deep to gather all the data required for the Bears’ potentially game-changing offseason quarterback selection.
The Bears are expected to finalize their plans at the NFL Scouting Combine the following week. It appears that they will choose to trade Justin Fields and select a quarterback with the first overall pick.
Poles promised to take the decision all the way to the draft during his year-end press conference, but doing so could
If trading Fields is the plan, the Bears should try to reach an agreement soon after the combine so that it can be carried out when the new league year starts and before the quarterback free-agent market heats up.
Fields, who is only 24 years old, could still improve as a quarterback if he finds the right situation. Although Fields is attracting the attention of numerous NFL teams, few will be willing to forgo a first-round pick in order to sign him and exercise his fifth-year option before watching him play in their colors.
Only the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots seem like the most likely landing spots as of right now.
The hiring of Luke Getsy
as the offensive coordinator by the Las Vegas Raiders probably eliminates them from contention. Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints are teams that might be in the running but are unlikely to be involved because their veteran quarterbacks could be on their last leg. The Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Bucs, and Seattle Seahawks are the three teams that could enter the conversation as wild-card entrants.
We will proceed with the understanding that one of the four teams in quarterback purgatory—Denver, Pittsburgh, New England, or Atlanta—will make a trade for Fields based on the information at hand.
