Demarai Gray is put in his place by Sean Dyche regarding Everton’s future.
Sean Dyche has spoken out against Demarai Gray’s attempts to leave Everton this summer, telling the striker that he cannot do whatever he wants.
Gray was a crucial player for Everton last season, making 33 Premier League matches, but he is yet to play this season.
The 27-year-old has been associated with Premier League clubs, teams throughout Europe, and a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, which he was eager to take advantage of.
Gray posted on Instagram, ‘Everton supporters have always been great with me. But it’s quite tough to play for someone who does not regard you as a person.’
Dyche has responded angrily, saying that Gray refused to train and notified the Everton hierarchy that he had secured a deal elsewhere, which has ruffled a few feathers to say the least.
Dyche told EvertonTV: ‘It’s bad because I try to keep our business in-house. I believe it is appropriate to respond on this occasion.
‘Demarai made it plain that he believed he was receiving a move [away from Everton], and he told us a move had been completed, which was interesting to hear from a player.
‘We reminded him that no movements are made without the approval of this club. That is the reality.
‘We look after these players; we look at all of the many ways to look after them. The mental and physical well-being are important, as are the tactics and technicalities. We consider all of that for all of these guys, and we take care of them.
‘When it gets to a time like that, you say, “Wait a minute. You stated unequivocally that you did not want to train, that you did not want to be here, and that you had a pre-arranged move.”
‘We claimed it wasn’t a done deal since this is the most important club. This club will make decisions about your future as players, not the other way around. I believe it is appropriate to allow our
Dyche went on to say that he realizes he has work to do at Everton to prove himself, and that the club is more important than anyone else at Goodison Park.
‘The one thing I’m certain of is that I need to earn my spurs here,’ he remarked. ‘Last season, we all made a step ahead in getting it over the line. This season, I’m still working hard to get my spurs. We have yet to achieve victory. I believe we performed well, but we did not win. There are always questions.
‘But one thing I know from my football career is that I’m a custodian. I’m a custodian while I’m a manager. So, while I’m here, the badge, the people, and the club will all be there.
