More Woe For Luton Town Midfielder
When Elliot Thorpe joined Luton Town, after being on the books of Tottenham Hotspur, it was hoped that he would go on to be a mainstay of the Hatters starting XI.
However, that hasn’t proven to be the case.
In his first season, at Kenilworth Road, Elliot was used sparingly as he sought to prove his worth and ability.
Indeed, in that first season, 2021/2022, Elliot made just 3 appearances.
In his second season, 2022/2023, in order to give him regular first team football and also to aid his development, Elliot went on a season-long loan spell to Burton Albion.
But it wasn’t a successful spell with Elliot making just 5 appearances before a lack of regular first-team action saw the player recalled by the Hatters.
This season, 2023/2024, with chances of a first-team spot further limited due to our promotion to the Premier League, the Hatters hierarchy decided that a season-long loan spell with Shrewsbury Town, a League One side, would further aid his development.
But, before the new season could get established, it has gone wrong for young Elliot with the midfielder picking up a back injury that will keep him sidelined for an unspecified period.
Indeed, as I write, discussions are underway between Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town as to whether it might be better for Elliot to return to Luton for treatment.
At the age of 22, surely Elliot deserves a bit of luck otherwise his career could stall further and there is a fear he could be lost to the game forever.
