NRL Casualty Ward: Three tough guys get hurt, but the Blues guns make a full recovery
Rueben Garrick was sidelined due to a head knock, and forwards Taniela Paseka and Toafofoa Sipley also sustained injuries as the Sea Eagles trailed the Dragons early in their victory.
Garrick was knocked out in the 38th minute after receiving another blow to the head just ten minutes after returning from an earlier HIA. He was later ruled out after failing his assessment.
Paseka, on the other hand, was forced off the field seven minutes into the game due to what appeared to be a possible thumb fracture.
Fellow prop Sipley, who played only 16 minutes in the game due to injury, was substituted for Paseka on the bench by coach Anthony Seibold.
The Dragons suffered a blow of their own when center Moses Suli was ruled out of the match on Sunday afternoon due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the warm-up.
Early in the second half, Roosters center Michael Jennings was taken off the field for treatment due to a suspected hamstring injury. He did not return to the game.
Star winger Dominic Young was sidelined for the game by the Roosters due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the week.
J’maine Hopgood, an Eels and Maroons forward, was forced to withdraw from the game prior to kickoff due to a back injury, and Maika Sivo, a winger, was a late withdrawal due to his inability to recover from a hamstring injury sustained during the week.
While Roosters coach Trent Robinson hinted that Young might return for Round 16, Parramatta interim coach Trent Barrett stated after the game that Sivo was guaranteed to make a comeback following the team’s bye the following week.
Due to an ankle injury, Titans back-row player Taniela Paseka was unable to play against the Wests Tigers on Saturday, so he was unable to push for a Maroons recall.
The Titans have decided to rest Fifita due to a minor ankle injury. The dynamic forward is anticipated to return in Round 16.
Warriors center Rocco Berry’s night against the Storm ended after just 38 minutes due to what appeared to be a suspected shoulder injury. Adam Pompey (leg) also left the game late due to an injury; he will be evaluated this coming week.
After failing a health check in the second half of his team’s loss to the Cowboys on Friday, Raiders hooker Tom Starling will miss their Round 16 matchup against the Wests Tigers.
Although South Sydney’s forward Jai Arrow appeared to have a rib injury late in the team’s victory over the Broncos, interim coach Ben Hornby said after the game that there was no reason for concern.
After undergoing his third knee reconstruction of his career, Doueihi is expected to rejoin Benji Marshall’s squad in Round 16. He last participated in the NRL in Round 6, 2023.
