Collingwood is excited to announce that Oscar Steene has put pen to paper, signing on for the 2025 season.
Collingwood Football Club has confirmed that rising talent Oscar Steene has officially signed a new contract, extending his stay at the club for the 2025 AFL season. Known for his athleticism and on-field versatility, Steene’s signing represents an exciting investment in the club’s future as they work to build a young, competitive squad.
Steene, who joined Collingwood as a promising rookie, has steadily proven his worth, showcasing strong skills in the ruck and around the ground. The decision to re-sign him highlights the club’s confidence in his potential to further develop into a key player. At just 21, Steene has already made an impression with his work ethic, game intelligence, and resilience, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
In a press statement, Collingwood’s head coach praised Steene’s impact on the team, stating, “Oscar has shown incredible commitment to our team and a genuine hunger for improvement. His athleticism and agility for a big man are impressive, and he’s eager to refine his skills and grow as part of our future. We are thrilled to see him commit to the club for another season and look forward to seeing his progress in 2025.”
Steene expressed his enthusiasm about the contract extension, sharing his pride in being part of Collingwood’s vision. “I feel incredibly honored to be staying at Collingwood,” Steene said. “The support from my teammates, the coaching staff, and, of course, the fans has been phenomenal. I’m ready to take on the next season with everything I have and to continue improving as we push for success.”
With the re-signing of Steene, Collingwood hopes to cement its core group of emerging players, focusing on youth development and long-term success. Fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing how Steene will contribute to the club’s performance in 2025, with aspirations high for a successful season ahead.
Steene signed on as a rookie after training with Collingwood through the AFL’s Supplementary Selection Period in November 2022.
Whilst he is yet to make his AFL debut, the 21-year-old has played 18 games with the Club’s VFL side but was limited to just one appearance in 2024 having sustained a toe injury early in the season.
Head of Football Strategy, Innovation and List Management Justin Leppitsch said:
“We’re delighted to have Oscar re-sign with our Club for the 2025 season,” Leppitsch said.
“Despite battling a toe injury this season, Oscar has made positive steps in his recovery and has shown great resilience and dedication to developing his craft.
“We look forward to Oscar’s continued development within our environment and we’re excited to see him play a part in the future of our ruck group.”
