Another setback for an ex-Sunderland player as his agony at Portsmouth continues.

Denver Hume’s absence from Pompey will extend in tonight’s EFL Trophy match against Gillingham.

The out-of-favour left-back has not been in a single Blues squad this season, despite continuing to train with John Mousinho’s first-team.

His last appearance at any level came on July 14 as a second-half replacement in a pre-season friendly at Gosport.

And the former £200,000 signing will not be among Pompey’s 18-man team for tonight’s cup tie against League Two Gillingham (7.45pm).

‘Denver’s here, he trains every day, and he’s been terrific to have around,’ Mousinho told The News.

‘The prevalent notion with him is that we are still trying to find him somewhere to go, and maybe that will work out in January.

‘It’s one of the reasons why, in some of these cup tournaments, we’ve looked at individuals who we think will be here longer term, like Koby Mottoh, and put him ahead of players like Denver.

‘It’s no slight on anyone, there’s no issue whatsoever, we want to try to work something out with Denver in terms of him being able to play football somewhere else.

‘Not non-league; based on our discussions, we believe Football League football is a realistic aim for him – and that’s where he wants to go.

‘With only two and a half months till the window opens, a lot of conversations are starting. It comes around so fast.’

Hume can only leave Pompey in January because the transfer window is now closed, ruling out a non-league loan.

Meanwhile, Liam Vincent is attempting to make his Blues debut after spending nearly two and a half years on the south coast.

He will be considered against Gillingham now that he has returned from a one-month loan at Worthing.

‘Whether Liam deserves that spot is probably depending on what the correct balance is,’ Mousinho remarked.

‘He has been on loan to Worthing this season, and we are hoping to get him out again for some more regular action.

‘Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened yet, so we’ll consider it.’
