Sunderland’s important player has been ruled out of the club’s home match against Middlesbrough.

Sunderland’s injured players are being updated as the Black Cats prepare to face Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland host Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, hoping for their third win in a row. Sunderland won 2-0 at home against struggling Watford in midweek thanks to goals from Niall Huggins and Abdoullah Ba, following a 3-0 triumph against Sheffield Wednesday the week before.

They now face a Boro team that, despite a shaky start to the season, has found form and will come on Wearside having won three league games in a row. Aside from Pritchard, the Black Cats are still missing a number of players, but some, such as Aji Alese and Eliezer Mayenda, are reaching full health after lengthy layoffs.

They could return to action after the international break, which would see the Championship rest for two weeks following Sunderland’s game against Boro. However, captain Corry Evans and fellow midfielder Jay Matete are both out for the long term and will be absent for some time.

Mowbray provides an injury update before each game, and ChronicleLive has compiled the most recent information we have on the players that are now in the Academy of Light’s treatment center.

Pritchard missed Sunderland’s win over Watford due to a calf issue, and when asked about his availability for this weekend’s game against Middlesbrough, Mowbray replied, “I don’t think it’s worth us risking Pritchard.”

Ekwah was taken off early in Sunderland’s win over QPR, with Mowbray noting that the midfielder had been suffering from a dead leg for the previous week and had suffered another blow to it at Loftus Road. Ekwah missed the games against Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Watford. He is not expected to feature against Middlesbrough, with Mowbray stating that he will most likely return after the international break.

With a hamstring strain, Dack has missed Sunderland’s previous five games against QPR, Blackburn, Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday, and Watford. This week, Mowbray stated that Dack will be unavailable for the game against Boro but would return after the international break.
