‘Do you believe…’ Brooks dropped a bombshell as the Tigers’ maligned half was about to leave, and a rival NRL team was floated.

Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has reportedly decided to leave the Leichhardt club at the end of the season, with a rival NRL team speculated to be his next destination.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the 28-year-old is without a contract for 2024 and will now be available on the free market.

Tigers executives reportedly offered the halfback a two-year extension worth more than $1 million to keep him, but he notified assistant Benji Marshall of his decision on Sunday.

Brooks made his debut for the Tigers as an 18-year-old and has since played in over 200 games for the merging club.

Tim Sheens, the club’s head coach, has made no secret of his desire to keep Brooks despite reports connecting him to a move to the Super League.

Leeds Rhinos were said to be considering an offer for his services, while rival NRL teams are already sharpening their pencils.

Brooks may have seen the writing on the wall, according to James Graham of Triple M.

“Perhaps he has just gone, you know what I need a change and not be the local boy with all the hope put on him,” Graham told Triple M.

“I believe this is a win-win situation for everyone at the Tigers.” I believe Brooks has had to put himself first in this situation, saying, “Look, as much as I’d love to stay and be a part of this regeneration, it’s probably time for me to move on and get a fresh set of ideas, a fresh set of walls, and a fresh dressing room.”

“I think knowing who his management group is he is off-contract at the end of this season anyway, so he has been free to negotiate with rival clubs from last November.” Hooper stated.

“Something else will be at work here.” Something else will be on the table here, and it may not have been played out in public yet, but there will undoubtedly be something else at work.”

“Do you think Canberra?” Graham inquired.

With Jack Wighton joining the Rabbitohs in 2024, the Raiders have plenty of room in their pay cap.
