Anton Walkes, a former Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur footballer, died in a car accident in South Florida at the age of 25.

Anton Walkes, a former Tottenham and Portsmouth defender, died at the age of 25.

Charlotte FC, who Walkes last played for in the 2022 season, reported his death on Thursday (19 January) following an accident in South Florida.

Walkes, who was born in London, progressed through Spurs’ youth and made his debut and only appearance for the club in a Carabao Cup fixture against Gillingham in 2016, before joining Portsmouth for two years.

“Everyone at Tepper Sports & Entertainment is devastated by the tragic passing of Anton Walkes,” Charlotte owner David Tepper said.

“He was a wonderful son, father, partner, and teammate whose upbeat attitude touched everyone he met.”

“Anton made those around him better people in all aspects of life and represented Charlotte FC to the best of his ability both on and off the field.” Many people will miss him, and our thoughts and prayers are with Anton’s family during this difficult time.

“The club offers its full support to all those impacted during this period of mourning.”

Charlotte FC signed Walkes before of the 2022 season, and he helped them finish ninth in the Eastern Conference with 24 appearances.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father, loving person, and outstanding human being,” said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta.

“Anton embodied what it meant to be a part of Charlotte Football Club, and our entire community is in mourning as a result of this tragedy.”

“Anton was a talented and dedicated player who was well-liked by both his teammates and the fans.”
