Player reveals Brentford exit saga affected his sleep – Unhappy with how long everything took

Spanish midfielder Sergi Canós has admitted his long, drawn out move from Brentford to Valencia this summer ended up affecting his sleep.

The midfielder joined Valencia over the weekend, bringing an end to a summer long saga regarding his future, and has been speaking about the move in his unveiling.

He had made it clear he wanted to leave Brentford this summer after returning from a loan spell at Olympiakos last season.

The Bees, though, took up an option to extend the player’s contract by a year to ensure they could secure a fee for him rather than lose him on a free transfer.

That ended up causing issues for Valencia, who had been named as suitors for the player but were refusing to match Brentford’s demands, with Peter Lim continuing to be careful with funds.

It meant a saga ended up developing as the two clubs continued to negotiate and Canós resisted other offers as he was determined to join Valencia, his boyhood club.

At various points it appeared he would not get his wish and he admits that did lead to some issues over the summer, including with his sleep.

“The summer has been very long, both for me and for them,” he said.

“The communication I have had with the president, Solís and Corona has been extremely important. They have made a great effort to hold on and bring me here. It’s something I value.

“Well, the summer, as I said, has been very long, there have been many proposals, but communication with the club made it clear to me that they wanted me.

“That communication has been crucial. The preseason has not been one of my best, because I have not played any minute.

“Both stress and the market have influenced me a lot. In how I have slept and how I have carried these two months.

“I have continued training with Brentford, to get in shape, yes, it is true that not in the way that I would have liked, but I am now under the orders of Baraja and I’m ready to die.”
