After being passed over by Eddie Howe, the ‘amazing’ 25-year-old can now prove Newcastle wrong.
Newcastle United will encounter a number of familiar faces when they meet AC Milan on Tuesday night.
While many of Eddie Howe’s players are unfamiliar with the Champions League, their opponents have a strong Premier League background.
Newcastle will be up against Olivier Giroud and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the latter of whom was widely linked with a move to St James’ Park earlier this year. In reality, he only joined AC Milan because they needed a midfielder when Sandro Tonali left.
Christian Pulisic is another player who AC Milan now has, and he is also someone who Newcastle has tried to sign in the last year. They did, however, reject him down just this summer.
This summer, Newcastle turned rejected the opportunity to sign Christian Pulisic.
Newcastle attempted to sign Pulisic last summer. Fabrizio Romano went so far as to say that the Magpies were ‘obsessed’ with signing the 25-year-old.
But the fixation did not result in a transaction, and rumors about a move to the North East persisted. January passed with no movement away from Stamford Bridge, bringing us to the summer of 2023.
Pulisic was among a group of Chelsea players who had no future under Mauricio Pochettino, giving Newcastle the opportunity to capture the winger they had been after for a year.
The Magpies were approached about signing Pulisic but declined. The ‘brilliant’ American was passed over by the Toon recruitment team, and he has since taken his talents to Italy.
Now that his new club is scheduled to meet Newcastle in the Champions League, Pulisic will have an instant opportunity to prove that they made a mistake.
Pulisic will be eager to make an impression on Tuesday night, but it appears that any effect will have to come from the bench. This is because it has been rumored that Stefano Pioli will bench him against Newcastle United.
