In the annual Players Choice Awards of the MLB Players Association, right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves was voted both the National League’s outstanding player and player of the year by his fellow major leaguers.

Shohei Ohtani, a pitcher and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels, was chosen as the American League’s best player, the union announced on Thursday.

Acuña, who hit.337 with 41 home runs, 106 RBIs, and 73 stolen bases in a season, became the first player to have both 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases. A player has never had 50 steals and 40 home runs in a single season.

Ohtani went 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA, 167 strikeouts in 132 innings, and a.304 batting average with 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.

He will not be able to return to the mound until 2025 due to a torn elbow ligament, which ended his pitching season on August 23. An oblique strain ended his hitting season on September 3.

Ohtani is anticipated to be the most valuable player available as a free agent.

The Texas Rangers’ second baseman Marcus Semien, who inspired others with his leadership, was named the winner of the Marvin Miller Man of the Year award for the second time. Two outstanding rookies were Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson in the AL and Arizona’s Corbin Carroll in the NL.
