Newcastle’s £80,000-per-week star, Howe, has been injured.
The Magpies manager is worried about his latest setback at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United could lose another first-team player to injury, with Eddie Howe providing an update on the nature of the damage inflicted.
Who is out of action for Newcastle United?
Joelinton and Joe Willock are currently out of action and on the sidelines with their own ailments, with the former set to be the quickest to recover and the latter aiming to return after the international break in October.
While Howe is missing two key senior players, the rest of his team came away with a positive result in their most recent match, an incredible 8-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United on Sunday, with eight different squad members getting their names on the scoresheet as they absolutely ran riot at Bramall Lane.
The Magpies did, however, suffer one setback over the weekend when Harvey Barnes was taken off the field and replaced by Anthony Gordon after only 12 minutes due to what appeared to be a serious injury.
How long will Harvey Barnes be out?
During his post-match interview following the weekend’s 8-0 thrashing of Paul Heckingbottom’s side, Howe was asked to provide an update on Barnes’ fitness, and while it’s too early to predict, it sounds like he could be out for some time.
“It doesn’t look promising. I believe he has a toe issue. He pulled away, feeling something in his toe. Early indications indicate that there is likely an injury there, but we don’t know what it is.”
How much money does Harvey Barnes make?
Barnes has earned £80k per week since transferring to Newcastle, and while the left-winger will continue to establish himself under Howe, he’s already demonstrated not just what he’s capable of achieving but also that he will undoubtedly earn his money once he can get fit and firing with a run in the team.
The Wasserman client has already contributed two goals and an assist in seven games for the Magpies, and the 25-year-old has earned the admiration of journalist Josh Bunting, who can’t believe how “composed” he is in the final third.
The Burnley-born player is also a versatile player, having played in an impressive nine different positions across the pitch since the start of his career, including everywhere across the frontline and even in midfield, but this is another quality that the manager will have to live without for however long his star is out.
Fortunately for the northeast team, Howe has Gordon as his other option on the left side, so he doesn’t have to worry about not having cover for Barnes, especially with the Everton academy product in such terrific form. Nonetheless, everyone involved with the club will be praying that his injury isn’t as severe as first thought and that he’ll be able to return to the pitch as soon as possible, with fixtures in several competitions approaching thick and fast.
