£15m West Ham man was well off the pace vs Rennes, now Moyes has to sign a replacement – opinion
Danny Ings looked well off the pace for West Ham during our friendly clash with Rennes tonight.
West Ham striker Danny Ings struggled to settle at the London Stadium following his £15 million move from Aston Villa in January (Sky Sports).
It has already been claimed this summer that the ex-Aston Villa, Liverpool, Southampton and Burnley hitman could be sold just six months into his West Ham career.
However, many believed that after a pre-season with his Hammers teammates under his belt, Ings would be a different animal for us this season.
David Moyes brought Ings to the London Stadium to score goals. He hasn’t done that consistently enough for us yet, but could he start banging them in this upcoming season and beyond? The signs aren’t good unfortunately…
West Ham man was well off the pace vs Rennes, now Moyes has to sign a replacement
It was a struggle for the 30-year-old out in France tonight, and he was replaced by young star Divin Mubama at half-time.
Even though the 18-year-old wasn’t at his best, he still looked far more of a threat than his more experienced teammate.
Ings just looked well out of shape to me. His runs were slow and cumbersome and he struggled to actually get involved in the game.
In fairness to the forward though, the entire West Ham team were off the boil tonight.
The thing is, Ings isn’t a bad striker at all. In fact he’s a very good finisher who has scored goals wherever he has been.
However, he clearly doesn’t suit David Moyes’s system at the London Stadium one little bit.
I think the West Ham boss should cut his losses and sell Danny Ings this summer if he can, after his poor performance against Rennes tonight.

Director of football confirms West Ham have made a £25 million bid for his player
Southampton director of football confirms West Ham have made a bid for James Ward-Prowse
Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox has admitted that his club have received a bid for West Ham target James Ward-Prowse.
When speaking to The Sun, Wilcox confirmed that Southampton have rejected a £25 million bid from West Ham for James Ward-Prowse.
The East London outfit have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old Saints skipper all summer long – and he is allegedly keen to move to the London Stadium.
Hammers manager David Moyes is well-known to be on the look-out for central midfield reinforcements in the summer transfer window.
And it seems as though Ward-Prowse is the man Moyes is prioritising a move to sign…
Southampton director of football confirms West Ham have made a bid for James Ward-Prowse
It seems as though the Hammers are definitely in for the Saints captain.
Wilcox confirmed to The Sun that the Hammers’ £25 million bid for JWP has been rejected, with Southampton thought to be holding out for closer to £40 million for his signature:
“Have we rejected the bid? Yep. If we get the right offer – we will consider it…we don’t have to sell.”
Whether West Ham are prepared to pay £40 million for Ward-Prowse remains to be seen but it’s unlikely as far as I’m concerned.
I suspect that the Hammers and Southampton will end up meeting in the middle, somewhere around £30-35 million.
The 11-capped England international will be a decent addition for West Ham, but only if he is signed alongside an elite defensive midfielder – someone like Sofyan Amrabat or Manu Kone.
Let’s hope that Moyes is eyeing up alternative targets to JWP in case we struggle to get a deal for the Southampton man over the line.

BREAKING NEWS: West Ham closer and closer to sign £10m winger who won the Premier League 7 years ago
Demarai Gray rumour pops up again with West Ham desperately looking for attacking reinforcements
West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing winger Demarai Gray from Everton this summer.
According to The Daily Mail, Everton ace Demarai Gray is firmly on the West Ham radar in the summer transfer window, although Besiktas have made the first move to sign him.
Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to bring the 27-year-old attacker to the London Stadium this summer (90min) – with Everton thought to be demanding just £10 million for him.
The Scot definitely needs to add more pace and trickery to his front-line before the start of the new Premier League season.
And it seems as though Gray is someone who is firmly on Moyes’s radar…
Demarai Gray rumour pops up again with West Ham desperately looking for attacking reinforcements
The Daily Mail reckon that the Everton winger is set for an exit from Goodison Park this summer, with the Hammers chasing his signature.
I actually think Gray would be a really good addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium, especially for just £10 million.
He won the league with Leicester City way back in 2016, and has since gone on to enjoy spells with Bayer Leverkusen and now the Toffees.
He was described as an ‘unbelievable’ player on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five YouTube channel.
The former Leicester City attacker has blistering pace, truly incredible skill and possesses an unbelievably ferocious shot.
I don’t think West Ham can go wrong by signing Demarai Gray from Everton this summer, I really don’t. He’d provide really strong competition and cover for Said Benrahma, and with so many games lying ahead for the Hammers this season, that can only be a good thing.

BREAKING NEWS: West Ham establish contact with 21-year-old French international
West Ham United interested in Adrien Truffert, establish contact
West Ham United are keen on acquiring the services of the 21-year-old Stade Rennais full-back Adrien Truffert.
According to a report by Le Parisien, West Ham United want to bolster their defence ahead of next season, and they are interested in the services of Adrien Truffert. The 21-year-old full-back has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months, and he is on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe.
The Hammers are impressed with what they have seen from the French international and have started making moves to acquire his services. They have contacted the player’s entourage over a potential deal. While they have started talks with the player’s representatives, they are yet to contact the French club Stade Rennais.
Truffert has been a part of the French club since 2015. He has gone up the ranks and was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2020. The 21-year-old has featured in a total of 113 matches and has contributed towards 18 goals, 14 of which have been assists.
As far as the 2022/23 season is concerned, the French international managed to rack up a total of 38 appearances and was on the pitch for over 2,500 minutes despite being injured in the last part of the season. He even contributed with seven assists,
The 21-year-old has returned from injury and is ready to get going once again. But his future at the French club is uncertain. There is a lot of interest in his services and he could be on his way out if the right offer arrives.
Last summer, Aston Villa pushed for his services and even submitted a bid worth €18 million. But, the transfer did not go through. While they are no longer in the race for his services, West Ham are interested and have been making moves of late.
The Hammers did not have the best of seasons last time out despite having won the UEFA Conference League and are looking to reinforce their squad, with James Ward-Prowse a top target. David Moyes’s major focus is on his defence and midfield. And, he is certain that the 21-year-old could be a great addition to his ranks.
Meanwhile, Stade Rennais are well aware of the interest in his services. But they are keen on having him at the club for years to come. As a result, they have offered him a new contract that will extend his stay at the club.
The details regarding the new contract are not mentioned in the report. But one thing is certain, the player is in no hurry to sign it. The 21-year-old French international wants to explore all possibilities and is open to a move away from the club in the ongoing window.
