Sources close to Ruben Loftus-Cheek suggest his name has been circulated at West Ham United, according to talkSPORT.

The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (9 October) that the England international could return to the Premier League in the new year, with his name already mentioned to several clubs ahead of the January window.

Loftus-Cheek made the move to AC Milan last summer from Chelsea and is understood to have taken a pay cut to join the ranks at the San Siro, but has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Reports have suggested that the Hammers could explore a swap deal that would see Edson Alvarez make the move to the Serie A giant in exchange for Loftus-Cheek [Daily Mirror, 8 October, page 57].

Will Ruben Loftus-Cheek exit AC Milan amid West Ham transfer rumours?

Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have already revamped the majority of the playing squad left behind by David Moyes last summer, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them make further changes when January rolls around.

While the Hammers aren’t expected to have loads of money to spend in the new year, they will of course be open to doing business if the right deal presents itself and Loftus-Cheek may be the exact sort of transfer.

The England international has been linked with a move to the London Stadium in the past [90min, 18 May] and while it has never come to fruition, he seems to fit the bill of what Lopetegui is looking for in the middle of the park.

His ball-carrying ability and powerful dribbling style will be incredibly appealing. On the face of it, the Milan star will be able to add a different and more attacking dimension to what can occasionally be a slightly one-dimensional midfield.

It will be interesting to see whether or not the Irons take up the chance to sign the former Chelsea man when January rolls around.

Edson Alvarez could leave West Ham United as soon as January with a surprise AC Milan swap deal offered, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror reported in their print edition (8 October, page 57) that the Irons have been offered Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in exchange for Alvarez, who has started the new season poorly.
