Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays goes viral after winning the charity home run derby.

In Puerto Rico, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and José Berríos, his teammate for the Toronto Blue Jays, organized a charity softball game and home run derby that went viral.
Over the weekend, José Berríos, the pitcher, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, collaborated to organize a Charity Softball Game and Home Run Derby in Puerto Rico.

Guerrero went viral for hitting some huge moonshots down in Carolina after winning the Home Run Derby at this summer’s MLB All-Star Game in Seattle.

MLB stars Edwin Díaz, Francisco Lindor, Julio Rodríguez, Javier Baéz, Eddie Rosario, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Jose Miranda were divided into two teams, Guerrero and La Makina, named after Berríos’ foundation that supports young people in Puerto Rico. In five innings, Team Guerrero triumphed 14-9, laying the groundwork for Vladdy’s momentous occasion later that evening.

In the Home Run Derby finals, Guerrero faced minor leaguer Jonathan Rodríguez of the Cleveland Guardians and prevailed on the last swing of the evening.

Thanks to his metal bat, Guerrero’s home runs had even more pop than usual, and once the highlights made their way onto social media, American fans took notice.

Guerrero received extra credit for winning in style in addition to his superior bat-swinging ability.

In the batter’s box, Guerrero wore high-top Jordan sneakers. They were just regular Jordans; they weren’t cleats either.
In 2023, Guerrero was selected for his third straight All-Star team. He hit.264 with 26 home runs, 94 RBI, a.788 OPS, and a 2.0 WAR. In his brief MLB career, the 24-year-old—the son of Hall of Fame outfielder Vladimir Guerrero—has already racked up 130 home runs, 404 RBI, 706 hits, and a 15.2 WAR.

A team’s ability to succeed in the high-stakes world of Major League Baseball (MLB) is entirely dependent on acquiring a superstar player. This was the situation when the Toronto Blue Jays worked extremely hard to acquire the highly desired Shohei Ohtani. The Blue Jays made a competitive offer, but Ohtani ultimately decided to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, so they lost out. This piece will examine the specifics of the Blue Jays’ trade offer for Ohtani, including the financial ramifications, the team’s history, and the lost chance to bolster their roster with a potentially game-changing addition.

The Grand Offer of the Blue Jays
Rumors concerning Ohtani’s decision to pursue free agency began to circulate, and the Blue Jays found themselves in a strong position to attempt to sign him. The Blue Jays reportedly made Ohtani a sizable offer that put them in the same financial bracket as the Los Angeles Dodgers, who emerged victorious. The specifics of the Blue Jays’ offer are still unknown, but it is thought to have been in excess of $600 million. The Blue Jays did everything they could to influence Ohtani, but in the end, he decided to accept the lucrative deal offered by the Dodgers.

Ohtani’s Choice and the Dodgers’ Victory
Ohtani made a historic choice when he decided to sign with the Dodgers. In addition to signing the biggest contract in the history of professional sports in North America—a whopping $700 million deal—he also made the decision to join a team that had a successful past. The Dodgers gave Ohtani the chance to contend for a World Series championship; they had the best record in baseball in 2022 and had been playing well lately. The Blue Jays were unable to resist the lure of both financial stability and the opportunity to join a winning team.
