The Hokies from Virginia Tech (9-5, 2-1 ACC) were about to pull off an amazing comeback and win their second ACC game of the year. But regrettably, the Florida State Seminoles (8-6, 2-1) were able to win the game 77-74 in Tallahassee on Saturday thanks to a contentious foul call with 1.2 seconds remaining.
After ten minutes, Florida State led Virginia Tech 14–9; however, with 9:43 left in the first half, the Hokies took their first lead of the game thanks to three-pointers from Sean Pedulla and Hunter Cattoor. For the next four minutes, the teams traded baskets until Pedulla and MJ Collins drained back-to-back three-pointers, giving Vermont a 23-17 lead.
The Hokies would start the game strong.
The Rose Bowl is a unique occasion. It’s one of the most well-known bowl games in college football. Fans and members of the media have been calling the game “The Grandaddiest of them All” for years. The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners and the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs met in 2018.
Collins made another three-pointer at the 12-minute mark to give Virginia Tech a 48-41 lead, and the team controlled the game for the first eight minutes of the second half. But the ‘Noles steadily rallied and eventually took the lead, 50–48. The Hokies would go four minutes without scoring, letting FSU take control and go on a 14-0 run to take a seven-point lead.

The Hokies were determined to fight their way to the end. With four consecutive free throws from Tyler Nickel and Cattoor, FSU’s lead was reduced to six points. Jalen Warley, who was fouled by Virginia Tech, made one of his two free throws to make the score 74-67.
