Chris Harris Jr. is a fan of the Broncos selecting quarterback with the 12th pick.
Despite all the excitement surrounding them in the offseason, the Denver Broncos are coming off of their second consecutive disappointing season. Although head coach Sean Payton’s hiring helped somewhat, it wasn’t enough to get the team back into the playoffs. As they head into the upcoming offseason, Denver will be looking for a new quarterback, as Russell Wilson will no longer be the starting option due to the team’s desire to take a different approach.
It seems likely that Payton wants a signal-caller with whom he can develop, suggesting that they may select a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Denver has the 12th pick in this year’s draft, and there are many good options available.
When discussing the 12th pick with Patrick Chiotti, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. expressed his enthusiasm for selecting a quarterback. The two talked about J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback for University of Michigan, possibly being selected by Denver.
McCarthy’s draft stock is at an all-time high after leading Michigan to a National Championship. He has the talent, but it’s unclear if he’ll be selected in the first round.
In 15 games with the Wolverines last season, he completed passes for 2991 yards and 22 touchdowns. With every season that he spent at Michigan, McCarthy got better, providing prospective NFL teams with an idea of the kind of player they might be getting.
It’s a waiting game because, as Harris notes, rookie quarterbacks typically don’t win the Super Bowl. Occasionally, however, it can be very profitable to invest in a young quarterback.
The fact that McCarthy’s former head coach at Michigan is currently coaching with the rival Los Angeles Chargers of the AFC West division is the only drawback to Denver selecting McCarthy. Jim Harbaugh is probably aware of all of McCarthy’s advantages and disadvantages, which could present problems for Denver.
If the Broncos liked McCarthy out of college, they wouldn’t let that stop them from drafting him. Though the circumstances surrounding the Broncos are still unknown, it appears that even the team’s veteran players are cool with them selecting a rookie quarterback.

In 2010, Callahan made his Denver Broncos debut. From 2011 to 2012, he played offensive quality control. Between 2013 and 2015, he served as the team’s offensive assistant.
He deserves this chance because he has worked hard and fulfilled his obligations. At one in the morning, he and I would text back and forth. He was still breaking down films at the complex, and he had no intention of leaving anytime soon. He will always have the same work ethic, which I found admirable when I worked with him in Denver. A guy who will give it everything he has is coming to the Titans. I’m rooting for him because he is putting together a strong team.”
Manning also thinks Callahan and Derrick Henry, the running back for the Titans, would mesh well. Among the 24 free agents on the Titans is Henry.
“Derrick Henry would adore Brian Callahan, and vice versa. Of course, there are business considerations, and (general manager) Ran Carthon and his team will have to make that determination,” Manning stated. “However, Brian Callahan is a fan of a strong running game, and his dad, Bill, is the best line coach in the NFL, so Bill is coming over to coach the o-line. I am aware that he values a strong back.”
