Kellen Moore and the Eagles Hire Former Cowboys Coach

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to pose the greatest threat to the Dallas Cowboys’ hopes of winning the NFC East again until further notice. They have a good chance of needing to defeat Philadelphia if they want to go deep into the postseason.

The Eagles, however, will not be the same team that crumbled in 2023 due to a coaching staff in disarray and Super Bowl expectations. Hiring seasoned defensive coordinator Kellen Moore and veteran defensive mind Vic Fangio to oversee the defense were two well-received decisions they made.

Notably, Moore worked as a coach for Dallas for one season before joining the Los Angeles Chargers as their offensive coordinator. Moore found a new job quickly after the coaching staff was fired, and he will now be responsible for defeating his previous team.

According to Jeremy Fowler, Doug Nussmeier, a former Cowboys assistant coach, was hired by Philadelphia on Saturday to coach the quarterback position. He will collaborate closely with Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Eagles, as they try to combine Moore’s philosophy and the offense from last season.

From Dallas to Los Angeles and now to Philadelphia, Nussmeier trailed Moore. However, he spent the most time with the Cowboys. Alongside quarterback Dak Prescott and Moore, he served as the tight ends coach from 2018 to 2019 and the quarterbacks coach for the following three seasons.

Nussmeier brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to the table. Before joining the Cowboys in 2018, he had served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at five different schools. Prior to this, he played for the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, and Indianapolis Colts for brief periods of time. He also spent two years coaching the quarterbacks for the St. Louis Rams from 2006 to 2007.

The move makes sense, but even if Nussmeier isn’t divulging state secrets, Dallas will probably be negatively impacted by his move to Philadelphia given his rapport with Moore and his apparent lack of mistrust.
