Steelers Should Target One Veteran QB, Says Former NFL General Manager
Since Ben Roethlisberger’s final two seasons, the quarterbacks for the Pittsburgh Steelers have not produced much.
It’s understandable that the fans are growing impatient with Kenny Pickett because they haven’t seen much improvement from him.
Because of this, the majority of analysts think it’s time to move on from their previous first-round pick and look for a different quarterback.
In light of this, NFL analyst Mike Greenberg questioned former general manager Mike Tannenbaum on ESPN Radio about which player, Kirk Cousins or Justin Fields, he would target if he were in charge in Pittsburgh.
If I were Mike Tomlin, I would be considering the big picture. Tannenbaum remarked that Justin Fields was younger than Kenny Pickett.
Without hesitation, Tannenbaum took Fields’ side, claiming that the Steelers would have a fair contract for him and that he is younger than Kenny Pickett.
He also said that Fields is like Ryan Tannehill, who, with Arthur Smith as his offensive coordinator, had the best years of his career.
Fields and Tannehill, according to Tannenbaum, are both large, strong, and athletic, so Tannehill could gain from Smith’s offence and all the players the Steelers could surround him with.
In all honesty, Fields appears to have more upside than Pickett, and the latter hasn’t done much to bolster his claim to be the Steelers’ starting quarterback going forward.
Maybe all Pickett needs is a new offensive coordinator and caller, but the risk of staying inactive might be too great.
It remains to be seen, though, if the Steelers will truly let go of their franchise player.
