McDonald’s All-American basketballplayer signs with Indiana basketball Mike Woodson’s comments to Bryson Tucker

The McDonald’s All-American wing Bryson Tucker has officially signed with Indiana basketball, the team announced Thursday morning. After his official visit, the 6-foot-6, 180-pound player committed to Indiana on March 28.

“It’s possible for Bryson to have an immediate impact on our team,” IU head coach Mike Woodson stated in a press release. “He possesses the size and strength to reach his spots on the floor and plays a well-polished offensive game. He has a very strong midrange game and the quickness to get to the rim and finish well. We are excited to collaborate with him once he arrives on campus because he is a gifted young man.

Tucker is the No. 28 national prospect, No. 10 small forward, and No. 2 player from Virginia, according to 247Sports, who rates him as a four-star recruit. Tucker is ranked higher by 247Sports Composite, which lists him as a five-star recruit, No. 20 nationally, No. 7 positionally, and No. 1 from Virginia.

Tucker is the only signee for Indiana’s Class of 2024 at this time. The native of Arlington, Virginia, had intended to play for the G League Ignite rather than attend college, but he opened his college recruitment again after the NBA’s development team was shut down earlier this spring.

The Hoosiers’ offseason roster transition has been impactful and successful thus far, and Tucker’s commitment was the first domino to fall. In addition to Tucker, former Washington State point guard Myles Rice (ranked No. 17) and former Arizona center Oumar Ballo (ranked No. 1) have committed to play college basketball at Indiana.

Bryson Tucker, a 2024 McDonald’s All-American, has joined the Indiana men’s basketball team, according to a statement made by head coach Mike Woodson on Thursday.

Tucker has five-star ratings from both ESPN and Rivals and is a consensus top-30 nationally ranked recruit. The native of Baltimore, Maryland, was chosen for the McDonald’s All-America Game in 2024. In the 2021 FIBA Americas Championship, he averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while playing a key role in leading USA Basketball to the gold medal. In the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Classic, he added 11.0 points and 4.3 rebounds to his total. He went to the 2022 Under Armour Elite 24 Camp in 2022 and ’23, the NBPA Top 100 Camp in 2022 and ’23, Stephen Curry’s Camp in 2022 and ’23, and Jayson Tatum’s Elite Camp in 2023.

Tucker was included on the 2024 Naismith Trophy High School All-America Team as an honorable mention. A player who was selected to the Naismith Trophy All America Team has committed to Indiana for the fourth consecutive season. Honorable mentions went to Tamar Bates (2021) and Kel’el Ware (2022), while third-team selections went to Jalen Hood-Schifino (2022) and Mackenzie Mgbako (2023).

He is Byron and Tina Tucker’s son. His father, Byron, played collegiately for NC State and George Mason from 1988 to 1992, amassing 1,033 points, 595 rebounds, and 98 blocks in 66 games.
