With the offseason in full swing, and UF’s roster set for fall camp, it’s time to project Florida’s depth chart as best as possible, which has mainly been determined through chats with sources and observing the Orange and Blue game, considering the media was limited to approximately 15 minutes of observation throughout spring practice.

Here’s a projection of the defense:

Overview: The Gators secured the return of two interior defensive linemen, Cam Jackson and Caleb Banks, while adding Joey Slackman to the fold, which should aid the unit’s depth this season while giving the team a pair of returning starters along the interior. Additionally, Tyreak Sapp returns after starting the majority of last season at the ‘F’ position, while Justus Boone is expected to be fully healthy by the start of the season. The pairing should prove to be capable at generating pressure this season, which was sorely missed during the 2023 campaign. And, the unit should benefit from Kelby Collins’ transition to the position after playing his freshman season along the interior. At JACK, T.J. Searcy looks to build upon the impressive flashes he showcased during his freshman season, and there’s a highly touted piece behind him in LJ McCray, who worked with the starting unit at times during Florida’s Orange and Blue game. The defensive line room should be improved this season – it’s just a question of how much improvement the Gators are able to make.
