Two-time All-Pro kick returner Jakeem Grant spent most of his first six seasons in the NFL giving opposing special teams coordinators nightmares in aqua and orange but now hopes to land with a division rival.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that Grant is participating in the New York Jets minicamp this week on a tryout basis. The Dolphins concluded their camp with 100 percent attendance last week.

Grant, 31, was with Miami until Oct. 2021, when he was traded to the Chicago Bears for a sixth-round draft pick. The 2021 Pro Bowler then earned Special Teams Player of the Week for returning a punt 97 yards against the Green Bay Packers.

The Texas Tech player, who was previously selected in the sixth round of the draft, inked a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns in 2022, but he has since suffered two horrific injuries. On August 10, 2022, Grant was placed on injured reserve because of an injury to his Achilles tendon. He had to miss all of 2023 after rupturing his patellar tendon in the final game of the next preseason.

Kevin Stefanski, the coach of Cleveland, expressed his disappointment in Jakeem’s injury. “To witness a man who put in a lot of effort to recover from his prior injuries. That’s a difficult one because I simply admire his strength and I know his teammates feel the same way.
