According to Alan Hutton, Aston Villa may threaten to cancel their kit arrangement with Castore due to the situation with the kits.
According to The Telegraph, Villa are “poised to cut short” their jersey arrangement with the Manchester-based manufacturer after both men’s and women’s team players complained about how the uniform retains sweat.
Villa players have appeared wet in numerous games this season, particularly in pre-season friendlies in warmer climates.
While it does not appear to have had a significant impact on results, Hutton is concerned that the issue may present a mental problem for the players because it inhibits movement.
The former Villa right-back feels the Premier League club might go to Castore and threaten to cut off their contract.
“I’ve not really had a problem like that except for in pre-season when you go away to a hot country,” Hutton told Villa News.
“I see what they mean because you’re completely soaked.” It’s like if you dived into a swimming pool and emerged wearing only a t-shirt and unable to move.
“There appears to be a problem, but it made me laugh a little.”
“I recall witnessing how wet the tops looked a few weeks ago. I thought it looked strange, but I’m not sure why or whether it has anything to do with the material.
“They might try to fix it, but it’s definitely a strange one.”
“If the players come in and say, ‘what is going on with these tops?’ it may seem insignificant, but it could be more of a mental thing than anything else and disrupt their performance.”
“If a lot of the players are moaning about it they’ll go to the manufacturers and ask if it can be fixed or resolved, if not they’ll have to look elsewhere.”
