Everton transfer choice now in their own hands as David Moyes considers three players
The ECHO takes a look who might be in David Moyes’ thoughts for Ipswich Town after a frustrating defeat at Chelsea
Carlos Alcaraz, Dwight McNeil and Youssef Chermiti could all push for a starting spot when Everton return to Goodison Park. The Blues will host Ipswich Town in the penultimate match at the Grand Old Lady.
It is a game that will be yet another celebration of the club’s rich history. And it will also be another opportunity for David Moyes to consider the future, too.
With 15 senior players on deals that are due to end in the summer, the coming months will see a significant squad rebuild.
Before that starts, Moyes still has some unanswered questions.
They are most prominent in attack after Everton laboured in front of goal in the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. Moyes could, therefore, look to give Chermiti a first start under his tutelage.
Beto has not scored since February and Armando Broja, who will be available to play after being ineligible to face parent club Chelsea, has struggled to make an impact in his two recent starts.
Chermiti is the only remaining unknown quantity to Moyes and the Blues manager may wish to see whether he is ready to be part of his plans next season.
Moyes also has a new freedom to play Alcaraz. After leaving him on the bench at Stamford Bridge, there is now no danger of the Argentine achieving the nine starts that would have forced Everton to make the deal permanent.
Moyes has said those terms have played on his mind but now the situation is fully in the club’s hands, he has greater freedom to assess a player who has been a hit with supporters since joining on loan from Flamengo in February.
Alcaraz was one of Everton’s better players in the defeat to Chelsea after he came off the bench at half-time and may now get the opportunity to stake a claim for a move.
