Newcastle United sent £30m Liam Delap message ahead of summer transfer battle – ‘100 per cent’.
Newcastle United are among a number of Premier League clubs said to be keen on signing the Ipswich Town striker..
Former Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City striker Chris Sutton believes it’s nailed on that Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap leaves the Tractor Boys this summer. The England youth international has been the standout performer for Kieran McKenna’s side this season, scoring 12 goals and setting up another two for teammates in 32 top flight appearances.
It’s that rich vein of form in front of goal that has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United among those suitors. It’s no secret that Eddie Howe’s side will be looking to bolster their forward line this summer, with Delap available for a reported £30million as a result of a relegation release clause agreed as part of his move from Manchester City last summer…
“That particular deal had to really suit Delap,” Sutton said on BBC 5 Live. “But with the level of his performance this season, I think we would look at him, if you priced him, maybe £60million? With his form for Ipswich this season, and how reliant they’ve been on him.
“But £30million seems an absolute snip. It suited both parties and he will 100% move on in the summer, won’t he?”
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart also believes the release clause in Delap’s Ipswich Town contract suits all parties involved, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea also reportedly keen on signing the 22-year-old when the transfer window opens this summer.
There’s no way they sign him. There’s no way it happens [without the release clause],” Hart said as he discussed Delap’s move to Portman Road. “No way Ipswich, a promoted team, get that and that’s what it is.
“I think they [release clauses] are amazing, and they make the league so much stronger. If you’re talking about the Man City or the Liverpool [they] say ‘You don’t fit into our system for at least two years. No problem, go and play for another good Premier League team, but someone that you don’t necessarily feel like that’s your main move and have a clause.’
“Have the clause in and everyone wins. The players can seem undervalued, and the club can seem like they’re missing out but most of the time you’re signing someone for very little, you’re going to make a win, a sizeable win. It’s good business, in my opinion.”
The number of clubs who now want to sign Liam Delap as Chelsea target makes key demand..
Chelsea face a battle royal to sign Liam Delap from Premier League rivals Ipswich Town this summer.
Delap is one of Chelsea’s targets as the Blues look to bring in a new centre-forward for the 2025/26 season.
Enzo Maresca already has Nicolas Jackson, but the 23-year-old is the only out-and-out striker in the Italian’s squad with any real experience, while his form lately has not been great.
It is why Chelsea are targeting a striker, with Delap high on their list. The Ipswich player has impressed in the Premier League this season, scoring 12 goals in 32 appearances.
