Blue Jays Make Roster Move After Sobering Bo Bichette News..

The Toronto Blue Jays have had a strong start to the 2025 MLB season. After winning each of their last four games, the Blue Jays currently sport a 5-2 record and are at the top of the AL East. While the Blue Jays are having an impressive start to the campaign, they also were dealt some rough news earlier this week. In a recent column for the New York Post, Jon Heyman reported that star Bo Bichette is likely to move on from the Blue Jays in free agency this winter.

Word is Bo Bichette is destined for free agency, however, and likely to leave,” Heyman wrote. With Bichette being one of the Blue Jays’ top stars, this update from Heyman is undoubtedly concerning. If he does, in fact, leave them during free agency, they will have a very hard time replacing all he provides.

Now, following this news, the Blue Jays have made a roster move. Blue Jays pitcher Richard Lovelady has been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo after clearing waivers.

Lovelady was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays back on March 30. This was after the lefty posted a 0-1 record in two appearances to start the season. During them, he allowed four earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched. Thus, it was undoubtedly a tough start to the campaign for Lovelady, but he will now look to get things back on track in Triple-A from here. In 110 career MLB games over six seasons split between the Kansas City Royals, Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays, and Blue Jays, Lovelady has a 5-13 record, 5.26 ERA, and 93 strikeouts.

Blue Jays Receive Unfortunate Bo Bichette News on Thursday..

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is having a strong start to the 2025 MLB season. Posting career-lows in several statistical categories last season, Bichette finished the year with a 72 OPS+ in 81 games played. Having never posted an OPS+ lower than 121 prior to last season, it was an unusual campaign for the 5-foot-11 infielder. Through seven games this season, Bichette is hitting .310 and has scored four runs for the Blue Jays. It is a big year for the 2016 second round pick, as he is set to enter free agency at the end of this season.

Like his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bichette has not reached a long-term agreement with the team he debuted for in 2019. Instead, he is not only expected to enter free agency, but leave the Blue Jays for another team. This is the unfortunate news Toronto received on Thursday via Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The MLB insider wrote, “Word is Bo Bichette is destined for free agency, however, and likely to leave.”

After how last season went, Bichette will need to regain his All-Star form in order to maximize his free agency. That said, even if the right-handed slugger can put together a season close to his career averages, he is likely to land a lucrative deal as a team’s shortstop of the future.

According to Heyman that team is not expected to be the Blue Jays which is bad news for a Toronto team looking to maintain relevance in the American League East.
